Google Business Profile for air duct cleaning companies: categories, services, photos, posts and Q&A

How to set up and maintain a duct and dryer vent cleaning Google profile that wins the map pack: the right categories, service list, photos, hours, posts and the Q&A nobody fills in.

Your Google Business Profile is the only marketing asset in this trade that a homeowner sees before they see your price. It decides whether you appear in the three map results for "air duct cleaning near me" and whether the person who taps your listing calls or keeps scrolling. Most profiles in this category were claimed in an afternoon and never opened again. 31.6% have no hours listed. 35.1% have no website link. 23.9% show an email. That neglect is your opening.

This guide walks the profile field by field, in the order that moves rank and calls.

Categories: the one choice that controls most of your ranking

Your primary category should be "Air duct cleaning service." Not HVAC contractor, not cleaning service, not home services. Google matches searches to primary categories first, and a duct cleaner filed as an HVAC contractor is competing against every furnace company in the county for a search they do not want.

Add secondary categories for the work you actually do: "Dryer vent cleaning service" if you clean vents, and "HVAC contractor" only if you hold the license and do the work. "Chimney sweep" and "Carpet cleaning service" belong only if you offer them; adding categories you cannot serve brings calls you have to turn away and reviews that mention it.

The two categories in our dataset that matter are air duct cleaning and dryer vent cleaning, and a large share of the strongest profiles carry both.

Services: list them with prices

Under the Services section, add each service as its own line with a description and a price or range. Google shows these in the listing and uses the text to match searches. Minimum list for a duct cleaner:

  • Whole-house air duct cleaning, with a range such as $350 to $650 depending on system count and home size
  • Dryer vent cleaning, $100 to $200
  • Furnace and air handler cleaning
  • Return and supply register sanitizing
  • Post-construction duct cleaning
  • Commercial duct cleaning if you do it

Putting a range in the service field is a direct answer to the $49 problem. A homeowner comparing your listing to a coupon listing sees a company that states a real price and a company that does not.

Photos: the before-and-after set

91.6% of profiles have at least one photo, so having a photo means nothing. Having the right photos is different. Upload, in this order:

  1. The truck with the vacuum unit visible, or the portable HEPA setup in a hallway. This is proof of method.
  2. Three before-and-after pairs inside a duct, shot with a borescope or phone light. Label them in the caption with the home's age.
  3. The debris: the drop cloth or canister at the end of a job.
  4. A crew member in uniform at a return grille with the access cover off.
  5. A clean register being reinstalled.

Add two or three new photos a month. Google weighs recency. Skip the stock photos of a smiling family under a vent; homeowners in this trade have learned to associate them with the coupon companies.

Hours and attributes

Set real hours. If you take calls until 7 p.m. but do not work after 5, set the hours you answer the phone, because that is what Google uses to show "open now." If you work Saturdays, list it: 56.8% of competitors do, and the homeowner is usually at home on Saturday for a three-hour job.

Do not mark yourself 24 hours unless a human answers at 2 a.m. 25% of listings claim it, almost none deliver it, and the first review that says "called at night, no answer" costs more than the "open now" badge earned.

Attributes to switch on if true: "Onsite services," "Online estimates," and the accessibility and identity fields you qualify for. Add your service area as the towns you drive to, not a 100-mile radius. Google trims profiles that claim too much.

The description and the business name

The description is 750 characters. Use it for method, price range, service area and what is included. Example structure: what you clean, how (truck-mounted negative air with agitation, or whatever is true), what a typical home costs, where you work, and that the quote on the phone is the price on the invoice.

Leave the business name as the legal name. Adding "Best Air Duct Cleaning Near Me" to the name is a policy violation and a suspension risk, and suspended profiles in this category take weeks to recover.

Posts and Q&A: the fields nobody uses

Posts expire after a week in search but they stay on the profile and they tell Google the business is active. One post a week is enough: a before-and-after from this week's job, a seasonal note on furnace prep or dryer fire safety, or a plain reminder that the price quoted is the price charged. No offers that look like coupons.

Q&A is open to the public, which means someone else will ask "how much do you charge" and someone else will answer it wrong. Seed it yourself. Post and answer the six questions homeowners actually ask: what it costs, how long it takes, whether you use chemicals, whether you clean the furnace too, how often ducts need it, and whether the price on the phone is final. Answer in two or three sentences each.

Measure it monthly

Open the Performance tab once a month and record: searches that showed the profile, calls, direction requests, website taps. A healthy duct cleaning profile in a mid-size metro gets 400 to 1,500 views a month and 20 to 80 calls. If views are high and calls are low, the problem is photos, reviews or the missing price range. If views are low, it is categories and the service area.

Compare your review count to the state table in the benchmark report. The 90th percentile is 139 reviews nationally and the reviews guide covers getting there.

Frequently asked

Should I list a service-area business or a storefront? If customers do not come to your shop, hide the address and list the service area. A home address shown on a profile invites spam and can trigger verification problems later.

How do I handle an old HVAC listing with my phone number on it? Claim it, then either merge it or mark it permanently closed through support. Two listings with the same number split your reviews and confuse the map.

Does the website link matter if the profile is complete? Yes. Companies with a linked website have a median of 18 reviews against 2 without. The link is also where Google confirms your services and area. See the website essentials guide.
